Spend more time designing, and less time drawing! DWG files are compatible back to AutoCAD 2000. Using Drawing Update Tools 16. I know we've got drawing demo02 open, but if I go up to the Application menu, click on the big red A, and do a Save As, Drawing here, you'll notice in the dialogue box at the bottom of the screen there, can you see AutoCAD 2018 Drawing?

The most popular CAD Program by far, is Autodesk's AutoCAD. Note:The use of DWG and AutoCad both trademarks of AutoDesk on this website in is soley for the purposes of recognizing the CAD standard set by AutoDesk and does not imply the endorsement of AutoDesk or AutoDesk's ownership for the material on this web site. Cad libraries are organized collections of dwg and supporting files.

The primary advantage of using a CAD library is that it is more efficient and effective. By making it unnecessary to begin the drawing from scratch, the CAD library saves time and money. A slightly less obvious benefit is that these collections allow designers, such as engineers, architects etc.

This allows them to focus creative energy on new items specific to their unique project. CAD Blocks CAD blocks are named groups of objects, sometimes called CAD Symbols, that act as a single object in your drawing. CAD blocks are used to create repeated content such as drawing symbols, common components, and standard details.

Blocks help you save time, maintain consistency, and reduce file size by reusing and sharing content rather than re-drawing it every time you need it. Block libraries are essentially DWG Libraries for blocks. About our Libraries The consists over 300 sample dwg files. If you are looking specifically for free cad blocks, the free cad blocks are in a directory called Symbols--DWG. Our consists of over 9200 dwg files CAD blocks, Cad Details etc. The files divided into the major categories of commercial and residential are organized hierachically into over 150 categories so you can drill down to what you need quickly.

Our contains 5,500 2D. All the elements in the drawings are composed of lines only there are no hatches or embedded dimensions and the drawings are fully editable so that you can customize them as if you had drawn them yourself. These highly detailed drawings cover 141 categories.

They also are organized hierarchically for easy drill down. The contains more than 100,000+ useful and ready to use dwg cad drawing files in 71 categories. These libraries are available for Instant Download or on DVD. For a complete listing of our entire collection.

Generically, it refers to the process of using computers, rather than the traditional drafting board, to create and maintain technical drawings. The design itself happens in the mind of the engineer, architect, or designer. The drawings, printouts, and pdf files created and edited by this software simply record the thought process of the designer.

It is just a tool, not the actual designer. It replaces literally hundreds of years of the more traditional tools such as pencil, paper, compass, protractor and ruler. It's important to remember that it's not always faster or more productive to create designs with a computer rather than with pencil and paper. The advantage comes when it's time to modfiy the design and reuse standard components.

To make matters even more inefficent, much of each type of drawing was spent creating from scratch standard components or parts. This new type of software, which was very expensive by today's standards, was well worth the price due to the great reduction in time for rework and for the creation of standard components, details and symbols.

Libraries of files, such as the ones we provide, are the reason Computer Aided Design software became so prevalent. AutoCAD by Autodesk, is one of the earliest and arguably the most famous of all Computer Aided Design programs. They literally set the standard for CAD file formats. Because our libraries are compatible with AutoCAD 2000, they will work with nearly any standard CAD program. Analogies and Metaphors Since the skills of drafting and design take place in the mind and with the hands of the designer, users of early design software were used to these traditional tools.

To ease the mental transition from analog to digital, the software designers used tool names and icons that were similar to the tools of traditional drafters. Tools to measure lines will usually have an icon that looks like a ruler. Tools to measure angles will often have icons that look like protractors. Video Examples When CAD Software was first introduced, the raw expense of computer power meant that only 2D drawings were possible. And, since floor plans and similar designs were always 2D, nobody saw this as unusual.

Today, of course, 3D designs are common. What's important to remember, however, is that 2D drawings are foundational no pun intended to the creation of 3D drawings. One of the newer pieces of 3D design software, which is targeted at less experienced designers is SketchUp. As the name implies, by design, it lacks the depth of more sophisticated tools. However, it's fairly straight forward to use 2D DWG files in SketchUp as the following video shows.

Common CAD Terms CAD Computer Aided Design CAD Block Group of objects that make a single object. CAD Detail Very specific and focused drawing or section of a larger desgin. DWG Defacto standard file format for CAD drawings. Invented and trademarked by Autodesk for AutoCAD. AutoCAD Pioneer 1982 and industry leading CAD Program.

AutoCAD Electrical is one of the toolsets available in one AutoCAD. This powerful AutoCAD add-on for electrical designers and engineers offers automated drafting tools for designing wiring, circuiting, PLC modules, panels, and data and schedules. This is on top of all the benefits that AutoCAD brings to the table.

This course provides the novice user with the training required to use AutoCAD Electrical quickly and effectively. Shaun Bryant demos the user interface and leads you step-by-step through the process of creating precise, measured electrical drawings and schematics. Learn how to design wiring diagrams, insert components and terminals, use PLC symbols in ladder diagrams, perform point-to-point wiring, create custom symbols, add annotations like title blocks to drawings, and run reports.

In the final chapters, Shaun shows how to set up AutoCAD Electrical to your liking by adjusting settings and customizing the built-in templates, and demonstrates how to reuse, copy, export, and verify drawings.

Plus, learn about improvements in the 2018 version of the software, such as 4K high-res and DWG support. Shaun has sales, support, and technical expertise, CAD managerial skills, and 30 years of industry experience. He has worked as a consultant, trainer, manager, and user, all of which helped him develop a diverse skillset. His career has included 18 years as a CAD, BIM, and facilities management consultant and trainer, with the earlier years of his CAD career in sales, pre-sales, and business development.

Shaun has been a director on the board of Autodesk User Group International AUGI , and he is also the author of the reputable CAD blog, Not Just Cad!

He is a seasoned Autodesk University AU speaker and was the AutoCAD expert at the inaugural Autodesk University London in June 2017. He is also an Autodesk University speaker mentor, AutoCAD Influencer, and a member of the Autodesk Expert Elite program.

Shaun lives in Norwich in the UK, and is the owner and director of CADFMconsultants Limited. Now what I'm going to discuss again is another technology improvement in AutoCAD Electrical 2018. And that is that we have a new DWG file format. Now you must be aware of this because if you're using older versions of AutoCAD Electrical, you need to do a save as to save back to that older version.

Because right now when you're working in AutoCAD Electrical 2018, if you just hit save, it's going to save it as a DWG 2018 file format. Let me just quickly demonstrate. I know we've got drawing demo02 open, but if I go up to the Application menu, click on the big red A, and do a Save As, Drawing here, you'll notice in the dialogue box at the bottom of the screen there, can you see AutoCAD 2018 Drawing?

So if I just click there, you can see that the last version of the DWG was a 2013 version. Exploring the User Interface 1. Managing Files and Options 2. Navigating in the Drawing 3.
